whats the point?

Sooo. I decided about a year ago that I wanted to create some type of newsletter/zine. The vision had been and still is to bridge this gap between politics and the average citizen. I think the spectrum of people and their relationship to politics is extremely large. That’s why finding the middle ground, and figuring out who exactly I should be writing to was hard. It did not help that I came into this idea from a pretty emotional place which clouded my organizational skills lol. All that to say its been difficult for me to understand where to start.

I initially had this idea a couple months after October 2023, and it came from an emotional place. There is nothing wrong about that, however, the emotions did cloud my mind and therefore the beginning of this process lacked a lot of organization.

Now, it’s been almost a year since I started my first post which went through like 50 different topics, and was a perfect example of how disorganized I was.

So I will start with what I want for my audience:

  1. Connect them to info

  2. Give the info in a digestible way

  3. Spark curiosity in x topic, so they feel the urge to go on and learn more.

Why I see this type of work as necessary:

  1. Usher ppl into humanitarian work

  2. Create community and insight to those who are already interested in these issues

  3. Be able to help and add to these convos in my own way. As well as let others feel they can add to these conversations even if they do not feel they are adequately equipped.

I think the sentiment to not talk about things unless you are fully knowledgeable about what youre saying is a double edged sword. While I see the point in not speaking on things that you are not well versed in, I think it also is a barrier that stops people from engaging with these topics. I believe to be able to get to the point of being excited/curious about something you have to engage in it. One way to do that is talking and making sense of things in your own words and mindset.

I think that's why I have always liked debates. The other week my friend and I were talking about AI and while I approached it as a conversation, she let me know that her opinion wouldn’t change to end the conversation.

THIS is the start of a loooooong process
